Jacqui Bassett is an oil and cold wax painter based in the Lake District. Inspired by this beautiful and diverse environment, her work at its core explores the emotionality of the land, seas and skies of our British Isles.

For Jacqui, there is endless inspiration found in the contrasts of this landscape: certainty through its geological formations, the ethereal quality of light brought on by the ever-changing weather here that can so quickly and effortlessly engulf you.

She paints intuitively, guided far more by how a landscape is experienced, an atmosphere felt, than by what is physically seen. Back in her studio she allows the painting to find its own way out whilst still somehow breathing into it a sense of the wilds.

For Jacqui, to paint is to attempt to illustrate the powerful and complex relationship we have to nature and to convey that sense to the viewer.
