From working previously in an abstract approach, segmenting highly contrasted colour areas into formalised shhapes, Ruaridh has progressed to laying down a loose overlay of gestural random patterns and effects. He superimposes in linear outline, his impressions of his portrait subject, formalising the image as a recognisable, real person containing the emotional dynamics and tensions with the individual. The scale is deliberately large in some of his paintings allowing for more emotional content via brushstrokes and effects.
Ruaridh studied at Glasgow School of Art and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. He has had several Solo and Group exhibitions throughout the UK, Ireland and Australia
